Candidate for GA House District 99
Michelle Kang is a first-generation Korean American who immigrated to Georgia in 1992, proud mother of three daughters , and former small business owner. She also the community leader, and advocate for working families in Georgia. In 2024, she ran one of the most competitive State House races in Georgia, falling short by only 621 votes against a MAGA extremist incumbent. As a first-time candidate, she built one of the closest races in the state by mobilizing diverse communities, amplifying immigrant voices, and proving that representation matters.
Michelle is committed to ensuring that every Georgian has the opportunity to thrive. Her legislative priorities include expanding access to affordable healthcare, protecting immigrant families, investing in strong public schools, supporting small businesses, and ensuring fair taxes. She believes deeply in strengthening the social safety net to protect the most vulnerable—families struggling with housing insecurity, food access, and economic instability.
Before entering politics, Michelle spent years building bridges across communities, organizing cultural events, and advocating for inclusion and equity in Georgia’s rapidly growing Asian American and immigrant population. She is the founder and CEO of the Suwanee Asian Festival, which has become one of the most visible celebrations of AAPI culture in the region, drawing tens of thousands of attendees annually.
Michelle’s campaign and leadership have been recognized nationally, including coverage by The Washington Post for her historic run as a first-generation Korean American woman challenging the political establishment. She continues to inspire Asian American and immigrant communities by showing that minority identity is not a barrier, but a source of strength in leadership.
